Are you ready to engineer the future of building envelopes? Our manufacturing facility is gearing up for growth, and we need a talented Envelope Engineer to join our team!

In this new role, you will be responsible for developing, engineering, and testing the company’s own mass-timber building facade/envelope products, including curtain walls, cladding, glazing systems, roofs, and other external components. Using your strong understanding of building science and experience with façade design, manufacturing, and assembly, you will develop innovative solutions to envelope design challenges and help expand the company’s versatile product offering.

This position reports to the Manager, Building Systems Integration, and works collaboratively with multiple members of our multi-disciplinary team.

Education & Qualifications, Required:
Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Building Science / Building Technology, or a related field.

Nice to Haves, but can be certified on the job:
Engineer-in-Training with EGBC, or the ability to apply.
Passive House certification is an asset.
Skills & Experience, Required:
3 to 5 years of industry experience working with Envelope systems.
Good understanding of building systems and technology
Experience with envelope detailing, engineering reports, testing, and manufacture or assembly standards
Working knowledge in McNeel Rhinoceros
Working knowledge of Autodesk suite of products
Able to present ideas.

Nice to Haves, but could be learned on the job:
Working knowledge of the BC Building Code and VBBL
Experience with computational or parametric design
Experience with digital manufacturing processes
Experience with Sustainability, LEED, an asset
Understanding of computational/parametric design and manufacturing systems
The Role & Responsibilities – Envelope Engineer:
Develop and design scalable and adaptable façade/envelope systems for buildings, including curtain walls, cladding, and glazing systems.
Design and oversee the manufacturing/fabrication and installation of building envelope systems.
Help expand the product offering of façade systems that are efficient, sustainable, and effective in managing heat, air, and moisture transfer.
Develop and review design documents, specifications, and manufacture or assembly drawings related to building envelope systems.
Lead the manufacture or assembly of full-scale mock-ups in our manufacturing facility, plan testing agendas, and write reports.
Assist in updating corporate standards, devise new innovative approaches, apply existing criteria in new manners, and draw conclusions for comparative situations as appropriate.
Work closely with architects, contractors, and other design professionals to ensure that building envelope systems are integrated seamlessly into the overall building design.
Collaborate and integrate with building partners, suppliers, and external engineering consultants.
Use computer modeling and simulation software to evaluate and optimize building envelope performance.
Research new building envelope materials, technologies, and systems to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
Provide technical support and expertise to project teams during all design and manufacture or assembly phases.
Conduct building envelope assessments to evaluate the condition of existing systems and recommend repair or replacement strategies.
Conduct site inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with building codes.
Conduct field inspections and testing of building envelope systems to ensure they meet design specifications and performance requirements.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including identifying opportunities to streamline processes, improve quality, and reduce waste.
Comply with all health and safety rules, policies, and procedures.
Comply with our administrative policies and procedures as set forth from time to time.
Contribute to team efforts.
Complete other duties as we may request which are consistent with your abilities and responsibilities.

Must provide your own CSA-approved 6” safety footwear, required.
Proof of ability to remain and work in Canada.
Successful candidates may be required to submit a background check
Safety Requirements:
When on the production floor or construction site, wear protective equipment, such as a hard hat, hearing protection, safety work boots, and safety glasses.
