Automated Architecture (AUAR) Ltd is looking for a full-time Micro-factory Manager with an architecture, construction or engineering background to work with us on the setup and running of a new micro-factory in Belgium.

Job Description:

Micro-factory Managers at AUAR will work with our team of makers, architects, and engineers to manufacture and deliver our robotically-prefabricated timber houses from our new micro-factory in Aalter (West-Flanders), across sites in Belgium. You will help us set up a new micro-factory with our London-based team and local manufacturing partner. You will oversee our robotics equipment and other digital machines such as CNC cutters. Managing the practical side of every stage of the build, you’ll work closely with our architects and other building professionals in planning and delivery. You’ll supervise and direct a range of operations in our factory and across our construction sites to ensure that our homes are delivered to an agreed plan, at the highest quality. You’ll feedback knowledge and expertise into AUAR’s system automation team. Being part of a technology-led company, you are proactive, able to work autonomously, and interested in new technical approaches, software tools, and manufacturing processes. Being one of our first hires in Belgium, you will act as AUAR’s advocate in Belgium and represent the company to the wider community. You have a passion for sustainable construction, timber, and technology.

Responsibilities:

Lead our micro-factory and run our robotic setup and other machines such as CNC cutters. We will provide training with ABB robotics and our London team to support you
Plan and coordinate a project from start to finish, including organising the schedule of work, costings, and budget, with the support of our London team
Oversee the buying of necessary materials and equipment
Manage factory prefabrication and project delivery on a day-to-day basis, including supervising the labor force, monitoring subcontractors, checking materials, inspecting work, and overseeing quality control
Ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget by setting benchmarks, agreeing on budgets, and monitoring progress
Check design documents with our architects, surveyors, and engineers
Promote and maintain health and safety, including factory and site inspections to ensure safety rules are being followed
Produce status reports and document builds
Maintain regular communication and attend meetings with clients and their representatives to inform them of progress on the project, i.e. stakeholder management
Feedback knowledge and expertise into AUAR’s automated building system, contribute to company Research and Development
Creative tinkering and proactive problem-solving with our architects and engineers
Essential Skills & Experience:

Architecture, Engineering, Construction/Project/Building Management, or Manufacturing background
Ability to read plans or 3D files
Strong communication skills – for liaising with a range of clients, professionals, and workers
Leadership skills and an ability to motivate your team to ensure a high standard of work
Excellent planning and organisational skills – for writing and monitoring project plans and schedules and utilising time and resources effectively
Resilience and problem-solving skills – in order to overcome unexpected challenges during the manufacturing and construction process
Awareness of health and safety procedures and legislation
Driving license
Nice to have:

Experience with robotics, CNC-cutting, or other digital fabrication methods
Experience with 3D-software packages such as Rhino
Experience in manufacturing, prefabrication, or modular construction
Experience with timber construction
Language requirements:

Fluent in Dutch and English. French or German is an advantage.
Location:

Aalter-based. You will need to travel regularly to various locations in Belgium. You will regularly travel to London for meetings and training.
