Berewood Primary School #Architecture #BIM #Schooldesign

I have spent the last two years working as Project Architect and Project Manager on a new build primary school in Waterlooville that has been completed this month.  This is a new 2 Form Entry primary school for 420 pupils as part of a housing development in Hampshire.  Berewood Primary School is a new build Academy sponsored by the Chichester Academy Trust and is part of the Berewood Housing development in Waterlooville, which will create 2650 new homes in the area.  The new school completion is in response to the provision of 440 new homes in the first phases of the development.

The school is a two Form Entry school which will cater for a total of 420 pupils once full.  The building has a main Assembly Hall, Music/Drama Hall, 14 Classrooms, Library, Specialist Practical room and four smaller Group rooms alongside staff areas.  The external landscape provides hard and soft landscaping features with play equipment, sand pits and covered shade sails for the pupils.  The school has been provided with high quality IT equipment, such as interactive screens in each classroom, laptops and Wi-Fi throughout the building.

The building was completed on time for the opening of the school on the 8th September when 59 new pupils will attend their first day.

The project is unique in a Local Authority for a project of this scale by instigated a Building Information Modelling (#BIM) pilot to develop the information, successfully federating 3D models from the Architect, Structural Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer and Above Ground Drainage Engineers.  The project was a finalist for BIM project of the year as part of the Constructing Excellence awards.  The project was successful in meeting a target Net rate reduction and BIM facilitated this achievement.
